So I beat Portal 2 a few days ago… and I have some feelings towards the ending.
Disclaimer: I loved the ending. It felt just as good as the [original] Portal 1 ending.
So it’s [basically] confirmed that GLaDOS did delete Caroline, which leaves me with some questions:
1) Was the end song actually directed at the player [Chell]?
Humor me, but what if GLaDOS was singing to Caroline?
“When I delete you maybe I’ll stop feeling so bad.”, she is not deleting Chell… in my opinion.
“Now little Caroline is in here too”; Caroline, as we know her from the game, was not little. I’d guess she was at least in her mid-late twenties, if not far older. That’s not “little”…2) I don’t think Caroline is really deleted. GLaDOS may have ridded her from the mainframe… but I think bits of GLaDOS are sprinkled throughout Aperture, and since they’re not connected to the mainframe, they’re not corrupted.

I think Caroline is an integral part of Aperture science, and while GLaDOS may have gotten rid of the portion that influenced her own personality, she will never get rid of Caroline from the other AIs at Aperture science.
I also wasn’t a huge fan of the space ending. I loved space-core, I was seriously on the floor in tears… but, ugh. It just seems so cheesy. Even an awesomely theoretical device like the ASHPD shouldn’t have enough power to send a quantum tunnel outside the Earth’s atmosphere.
Could’ve done without the sparkle, as well. Honestly it would’ve been a bit more believable if you just randomly got sucked into the moon portal… the sparkle was overkill, and I assume it was added because some idiot playtester was like: “WAIT GUISE. SO I SHOOT A PORTAL TOWARDS THE MOON. AND THEN I GET SUCKED INTO THE MOON. I DONT GET IT” *add visual cue of portal on moon* “MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW!”

Also: if it’s the mainframe that corrupted GLaDOS… why the hell didn’t the engineers remove her from the mainframe? She seems perfectly nice as a potato.
Potato GLaDOS was obviously far more effective than the morality core.
