On my pops playin’ PoP
For Christmas I bought my dad Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands on PS3, because our console collection needed a serious update…
I own Sands of Time on PC, and I honestly thought I was buying my dad the same game, just on a console.
It wasn’t till we started playing it that I realized I bought him the wrong game.
It wasn’t till I looked it up that I realized I bought him the totally wrong game.
From what I’ve read, I bought him the last game of the second trilogy. Whereas I thought I was buying him the first game of the first trilogy.
Anyways, the game proved quite fun. I beat it in about 3 days. He’s been playing since Christmas and is just now about to beat it, he’s on the final boss.
It was kind of fun to watch him play… because it’s soooo much more complex than the original ‘89 platformer.
The mechanics of the game got kind of tedious though, which is odd.
Basically, they introduced new “special abilities” throughout the gameplay because the old mechanics just get boring after a while.
First you can rewind time, then you can “freeze” water, then you can jump at enemies/birds, then you can recall pieces of “forgotten” land… and it’s all loosely strung together.
It was pretty fun, but it’s also kind of complex. They string these all together.
So, where the original game used the arrow keys and 2 buttons, this game makes you manipulate 6 buttons in somewhat perfect and unforgiving tandem.
My dad constantly missed jumps, which always ended up in hilarious death sequences. They sure don’t make games like they used to.
Overall, I think watching my dad play a video game was more entertaining than actually playing the game!
Also, I like the Prince in the second trilogy. The animation was ugly and stiff in Sands of Time. The prince in the second trilogy looks pretty emo, but in a good way(?) :P!
